Recently, I had the privilege of giving an Online presentation, to a group of single women from an international organisation, on ‘Our Identity Through the Life of the One Born in Bethlehem.’ I delved into the Word, and came across some old notes on the Covenant. Here’s some gems I gleaned>
THE BIRTH OF Yeshua Messiah, Yahweh God’s Son, changed History’s identity [BC to AD on the Gregorian calendar].
The Child Immanuel
[Through Isaiah] ‘Again Lord Yahweh spoke to [King] Ahaz, saying, “Go ahead–ask for a sign from Yahweh, your God …. Something big … that you’ll know that you that only God did it!” … So Isaiah said, “Pay attention, family of David … The Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold–the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will name him God Among Us [Immanuel].”‘ Isaiah 7: 10-14 TPT.A Covenant sign
[About the Messiah, the chosen Servant] “I, Yahweh, will give you as a COVENANT for the people; a walking light to the nations …” Isaiah 42: 6 TPT.
WHAT IS A COVENANT?
An eternal, legally-binding agreement between two parties was used by ancient pagan society and understood by Mankind. After discussing the Terms [weighing up the cost], the Covenant occurred through nine steps:
- Cut the Covenant using an animal sacrifice, cut down middle, blood released, two parties walk down middle [complete opening of their lives], stand ankle deep in blood and say, ‘I choose this day to die to myself and selfish interests, and to live to bless my covenant partner,’ … take care of one another.
- Mingled Blood – each party cut right arm or wrist, placed blood against each other’s wound – to live in unity, right to call each other ‘friend’ – my concerns are yours.
- Salt mixed with herbs rubbed on both arm wounds which would form a scar – while still standing ankle-deep in blood, blood trickling down from arms – to remind them they no longer live to self, though it started in pain, it grew to become a glorious badge of love – never alone in this world because someone else has a scar also … so if someone tried to kill this person, the scar would revel there was someone who would fight for the who also has a scar!
- Exchanged Robes – represents everything I am and have is yours.
- Exchanged Names – power of Attorney functioning in someone else’s’ name.
- Exchanged Belts – weapons carried on this – surrender my weapons – everything that could hurt / injure you , I am defenseless – You fight for me.
- Ate a Memorial Meal – Communion meal: ‘Do this in remembrance of Me until I come back.’
- Planted a Memorial Tree at the place the Covenant was cut – two witnesses [tree and scar].
- Exchange of Assets and Liabilities – God has only assets; Mankind has only liabilities, therefore God cut a Covenant with Himself.
Ancient Covenant Fulfilled
- Yahweh, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, cut an eternal, legally-binding Covenant with Himself as revealed first to Abraham [in Genesis 15 and 17 – Identity (circumcision) and Land]; then to Noah [Rainbow]; Moses [Blood sacrifice]; David [Kingdom] and
- Yahweh’s Marriage Covenant with His chosen people, Israel at Sinai – ‘Ketubah’ [10 Commandments in Exodus 20]
- Then a New / Renewed Covenant. The Mosaic Blood Covenant, requiring the blood of animals for atoning the sins of the people corporately, was now through Yeshua’s blood sacrifice alone, for each individual – everyone, for ever! [Hebrews 8-10]
- Yeshua Messiah came as our PEACE child1.
I had a fresh revelation that Yeshua Messiah came as:
> Heaven’s Covenant representative AND
> Mankind’s Covenant representative AND
> The Covenant sacrifice – the spotless Lamb of God. WOW!
Mankind was given a free will so Yahweh cut a Covenant with us, regardless of my/our response! Note that Abraham was put into a deep sleep! The Covenant was not just for the Hebrews / Israelites:
HIS SACRIFICE… of the Anointed One. ‘For he is the complete fullness of deity living in human form. And our own completeness is now found in him. We are completely filled with God as Christ’s fullness overflows within us. He is the Head of every kingdom and authority in the universe.
‘Through our union with him we have experienced circumcision of heart. All of the guilt and power of sin has been cut away … because of what Christ, the Anointed One, has accomplished for us. For we’ve been buried with him into his death … were raised with him when we believed in God’s resurrection power … we are forever alive and forgiven of all our sins!’ Colossians 2:8-14 TPT.
Identify WITH Him – He IDENTIFIES with you!
He came to have an Eternal Covenant relationship with you and me. Even in the unknown future, or suffering – through closed doors, wilderness experiences, imprisonment or enemy attacks; He’s there with us.
‘Eat and drink My Body and Blood of the New / Renewed / Repaired 2 COVENANT – until I return …’
‘I Am always with you!’
Let’s celebrate His birth with the Love Feast He commanded us to have until He returns to claim us as His Bride. Our TRUE identity in Him!
